A Few Thoughts about the Situation in and around Ukraine

Originally, I wanted to write an extensive post about the politics and treachery surrounding the conflict you've undoubtedly heard of, but in the end I decided not to and the main message I want to say is that I wish the Ukrainian people will overcome their hardships and live good lives.

We live in a world powered by greed and money. It's what moves us all forward. We want better wages to live better and much wants more. The higher we are on the ladder, the stronger the appetite grows. If you're the king on the chessboard, you stand on top of the sky and look down on the ants below. They suddenly look like pawns you can move freely and without remorse.

You might be an giant bear who likes to drink vodka and abuse neighbours which seem puny to you. You might be a ugly bureaucrat running the largest Ponzi scheme in human history, always on the lookout for the next victim. You might be the eagle which wants to put its rival out of the game. You might be a local feudal lord interested in living the good life. Regardless of who you are, you should realize that without those pawns, the ladder below you collapses. As long as we employ this cynical mentality where a drop in the ocean is expendable, there'll be hardships and there'll be wars.

Personally, I'm not sure what to expect from the future. I doubt it will escalate into a next world war. I doubt Ukraine will be pitted against Russia in a full-blown war. However, it seems some sort of a conflict is inevitable. So let's hope the bloodshed will be minimal. I don't want to drown in pathos, but remember the real heroes, not the killers. Remember those who save lives, not those who take them. And if history and the media have no place for the truth, then there always are those armed with papers and a pen, eager to portray the inexplicable quandaries of fate in their true light...
Translation: Politicians are blinded by their greed and their callousness and disregard for human life are startling. Nothing new though. It's been with us for centuries.

Have a good day.
